When a family's refrigerator is empty, a student is missing school supplies, or a neighbor is struggling to find their footing, The WellStorm, Inc. steps in.

This grassroots, women-of-color-led nonprofit bridges resource gaps for individuals and families facing food insecurity, homelessness, mental health challenges, and financial hardship across Worcester County. On November 14 at Knights, Crowns & Community, For One Child Foundation is proud to recognize The WellStorm as a 2026 Mission Champion.

Rooted in Mutual Aid

The WellStorm's work spans community fridges, emergency food assistance, food rescue, community meals, clothing distribution, youth enrichment, educational programs, and mental health initiatives. All of it is rooted in mutual aid, advocacy, and partnerships with local organizations, businesses, and volunteers.

Mission: To bridge resource gaps, deliver essential services to vulnerable populations, and cultivate community support, including advocating for students so they have what they need to thrive academically.

Vision: A thriving community where every individual has access to mental health support, nutritious food, empowering youth programs, and pathways out of homelessness, building a foundation of resilience, dignity, and opportunity for all.

The Impact

  • The Bridge Fridge has operated for four years and put more than $50,000 worth of fresh food back into the community.
  • Weekly Wednesday Meals with Rosilda's Kitchen bring neighbors together every week over a homemade meal.

A Friendship Years in the Making

The WellStorm's connection with For One Child began before The WellStorm even existed, when its President, Carla, met Founder Racquel Knight at a For One Child Mommy Day Out event.

Once The WellStorm was founded, that friendship grew into a real partnership, including co-hosting the Winter Galas in 2022 and 2023. Together, the two organizations have supplied school backpacks for students, and The WellStorm partnered with A Tribe Called Black to provide laptops that help reduce educational and technology barriers for For One Child students.

"Our partnership reflects our belief in community collaboration and maximizing our collective impact," says Yesenia Arroyo, Co-Founder and Treasurer.

Why Working Together Works

"No single organization can address every need within a community," Yesenia says. "By working together, organizations can combine resources, expertise, networks, and strengths to reduce duplicated services, bridge gaps, and reach more individuals and families."

To The WellStorm, collaboration should amplify existing efforts rather than duplicate them. "Most importantly, collaboration means listening to those we serve, staying flexible, and creating sustainable solutions that strengthen our communities through collective action."

"As a grassroots, volunteer-driven organization, this recognition validates the dedication of our team, volunteers, and community partners. It shows that even small organizations can create lasting impact through collaboration and compassion." — Yesenia Arroyo, Co-Founder & Treasurer, The WellStorm, Inc.

What's Next
